Identity And Belonging:A Study Of Foshan Martial Arts Cultural Community

Wushu culture is one of the representatives of Chinese excellent traditional culture.Foshan is the hometown of southern martial arts in China and occupies an important position in the history of Chinese martial arts.At the end of Ming Dynasty and the beginning of Qing Dynasty,Foshan Wushu became popular.Wushu had already consciously integrated into the life of Foshan people and became an indispensable part of Foshan’s collective memory.Over the years,scholars have done a lot of research from the perspectives of sociology,history,communication and anthropology.Community is a hot topic in cultural studies.Cultural community not only represents a concept of regionalism,but also stands out as a social psychological space with spiritual support,which is embodied in the sense of identity and belonging of the community.Therefore,this research uses the method of cultural anthropology research,using the theoretical perspective of community,and based on the field survey,oral history,methods of literature study and questionnaire investigation,combing with the description in foshan martial arts community of cultural identity and status quo of and forms,analytical foshan martial arts cultural community characteristics,revealing the rules of the development of the foshan martial arts culture deeply,To promote the sustainable development of Foshan martial arts culture to provide a mirror.The main conclusions are as follows:1.The historical situation and social environment of Foshan nurtures the formation of the martial spirit of Foshan Wushu.Most of the boxing types of Foshan Wushu were brought by the people from Central China when they went south.The development of martial arts in Foshan has been well influenced by the geographical environment,social economy and folk culture,presenting a prosperous scene of martial arts with Lingnan characteristics.In Ming and Qing Dynasties,Foshan martial arts culture community already existed.2.The degree of identity of Foshan Wushu culture is high,and the level of belonging of the community is above the medium level.The higher wushu cultural identity and the sense of belonging jointly verify the logical basis of the existence of Foshan Wushu cultural community.Foshan martial arts between each practiser identity relationship to one another,the factions of the martial arts be seperated with identity(common values and Shared memory),but each has its uniqueness,(distinguish between "I" and "us",our relationship with the "other"),each be seperated in the building of a symbiotic and and different "culture",and towards goals,to build the city of foshan world kung fu;The identity and uniqueness,the harmony but difference and symbiosis of fist types,the high identification and belonging constitute the cultural community of Foshan Wushu.4.Foshan Wushu forms residents’ embodied experience of Wushu culture through the exhibition space,imagination space,performance space and other cultural Spaces.Wushu culture,as a cultural symbol,circulates through "participation--imagination--meaning" with "Wushu culture phenomenon".The film and television symbols of martial arts formed by martial artists such as Huang Feihong,Ip Man and Bruce Lee are spread through film and television media symbols,and the cognition and identification of "martial arts cultural phenomena" are formed through "recognition,acceptance and integration".Through the above two processes to construct the residents’ wushu cultural identity and form their own wushu practice;Boxing field space(the "clearing" kung fu memory),Angle of kung fu and then went(community residents of martial arts venue),and then went(survival)and crisis,secret association and martial arts association(be seperated,harmonious coexistence and attribution)and an important embodiment of foshan residents and practitioners,and finally form the residents of the community sense of belonging;5.Wushu culture in the form of cultural symbols,through the spread of cultural space,make Wushu culture penetrate into the daily life of Foshan residents,build the identity and ownership of Foshan Wushu culture,and promote the improvement of Foshan Wushu cultural community.Foshan residents identity and belonging has substantial significance for the construction of foshan martial arts cultural community,among them,the correct cognition community foshan martial arts culture is the foundation,is the sublimation of cognitive community of cultural identity and belonging,is the core part of the consciousness,explore the foshan foshan martial arts cultural community identity and attribution is foshan martial arts cultural community in the orderly development of the internal motivation.
