Abstract/Summary:
Georg Kerschensteiner(1854.7.29-1932.1.5)is a famous German educational theorist and reformer at the end of the 19 th century and the beginning of the 20 th century. He has taught in many middle schools in Germany and served as the director of Education Bureau in Munich,Professor of education in Leipzig University and honorary professor of Munich University. He gradually formed and improved the theory of civic education through his educational practice. The theory of civic education of Kerschensteiner is rich in content, which is mainly composed of civic education thought and labor education thought. His thoughts of civic education and labor education have made outstanding contributions to the development of civic education in Germany and even the world.Due to Kerschensteiner’s own growth experience and social background, his civic education theory is influenced by the educational ideas of Pestalozzi and Dewey.Through comparative analysis,Kerschensteiner did not rigidly inherit the ideas of Pestalozzi and Dewey, but innovated and surpassed them on the basis of inheritance and combined with the actual situation of German society at that time.To treat Kerschensteiner’s theory of civic education dialectically and objectively,we should not only see its outstanding characteristics, progressive significance,as well as its reference significance to China’s ideological and political education, but also see its historical limitations, including its obvious class nature, too idealistic and divorced from reality due to the limitations of the times, which affect the scientificity and preciseness of his theory to a certain extent.
