The period of elementary school is the basic stage of a person’s lifelong development,and it is also a critical period of developing good habits.It is indisensable to help students develop good habit of autonomic learning in the stage of elementary school.However,in real life,the acdamic procrastination of primary school students is common.If the student develops the bad habit in this stage,it would not only reduce the efficiency of learning and affect the academic achievement,but also reduce the sense of ac hievement,which is not benefit to students’ physical and mental health.This study investigated the current situation of primary school students’ acdamic procrastination in C hongqing,analyzed the factors,and put forward some relevant educational suggestions,hoping to help students develop the habit of autonomic learning and reduce acdamic procrastination.This study investigated the current situation of primary school students’ acdamic procrastination with four dimensions which includes pre-planning,tasking execution,self-remediation and self-summarization,based on Temporal Motivation Theory and Self-Determination Theory,with 917 primary school students in C hongqing as the s urvey subjects.And 8 teachers and 12 primary school students also were interviewed to understand the performance of students’ acdamic procrastination.Combining the results of questionnaires and interviews,using Temporal Motivation Theory and Self-Determination Theory to share some relevant educational suggestions to reduce acdamic procrastination.According to the survey,the acdamic procrastination is generally among primary school students in Chongqing,but it is not serious.The scores of four dimensions from high to low are self-remediation,pre-planning,self-summarization and tasking execution.In the dimension of pre-planning,students are more likely to procrastinate the long-term plan;in the dimension of tasking execution,students produce more procrastinating behaviour without supervision;in the the dimension of self-recovery,students procrastinate asking for help;and in the dimension of self-summary,primary school students are more prone to delay summarizing methods.In addition,there are s ignificant differences in acdamic procrastination within area,gender,grade,and whether only children.The specific manifestations are as follows: the degree of students’ acdamic procrastination in rural is higher than urban;boys’ acdamic procrastination is more serious than girls’;acdamic procrastination of students becomes more serious with increasing of grade;child with siblings is more prone to procrastinate than only children;the lower the sense of accomplishment,the easier it is for students to procrastinate.Through analysis,this research explores the factors that make students produce acdamic procrastination from both internal and external aspects.The internal factors are students’ negative emotions,bad habits,the lack of ability and interest;the external factors mainly include improper parenting style,teachers’ failure of stimulating students’ interest,and interference in learning environment.Based on this,the article provides some suggestions for elementary school students to reduce acdamic procrastination from schools,teachers,families,and students.
