Development And Preliminary Application Of The College Counselling Questionnaire For Senior High Students Under The Background Of New College Entrance Examination

The aim of this study is to prepare the college counselling questionnaire for senior high students under the new college entrance examination context of “free selection of subjects and examinations” in China,explore the rules in college counselling service for senior high students,and providing senior high students with conductive suggestions on subject/examination selection and college counselling,thereby enriching relative researches in China.The preparation of college counselling questionnaire for senior high students was finally achieved after experiencing pre-testing and formal testing.The answers of a total of 123 and 2334 senior high students were collected respectively.By psychometric analysis,it was determined that the questionnaire includes both the occupational cognition and occupational orientation,among which,the former includes a total of 20 questions from three dimensions of current occupational status,occupational development and self-target,while the latter includes a total of 34 questions concerning seven types of natural type,research type,social type,management type,transaction type,art type,and technical type.All of these questions were scaled by 5-levels.The prepared questionnaire was applied in both online and offline investigations,acquiring effective samples from 2455 senior high students.The results show that:(1)Evaluation reliability of the two parts of occupational cognition and occupational orientation were 0.87 and 0.89 respectively,while the evaluation reliability of all the sub-dimensions were above 0.71;(2)occupational cognition and validity criterion showed ideal convergent validity and discriminant validity: dimensions with similar contents had high relevance(0.54),while the dimensions with different contents were of low relevance(0.19);(3)students with science orientation obtained high scores in natural and research types;and students with literal arts orientation obtained high scores in art and technical types.This indicates ideal discriminant validity between science and literal arts;(4)The structural validity of the two parts of this questionnaire has been confirmed by the verification factor analysis.Further investigation shows:(1)The occupational cognition of current senior high students show approximately normal distribution,but low mean values,and significant differences in gender,grade,urban and rural origins and scores: male students show higher level,students of grade-1 in senior high school ranked the lowest level,urban students present higher level,students with better academic scores have higher level,and students with science orientation show higher scores only in self-set goals but no difference in other dimensions compared with those liberal arts students.(2)In terms of occupational orientation,senior high students obtain highest scores in dimensions of social,transaction,and technical types;among the above,male students are more inclined to research and natural types while female students tend more to technical,art,transaction,management and social type;students of grade-2 and grade-3 are more inclined to natural,management,transaction and technical types;students of grade-1 are more inclined to research type than those in grade-2,while students of grade-2 tend more to art type;students of rural area are more inclined to natural type,while students in urban area are more inclined to art,research,social and management types;students with better academic results tend more to natural,research,transaction and social types;and students with science orientation tend more to research and natural types,while liberal arts students are more inclined to art and technical types.(3)In terms of selecting subject and examinations,the students with science orientation are more than the literal arts students in number,among whom,the number selecting the combination of the physics,chemistry,and biology is the largest,while the number selecting the combination of physics,chemistry,and politics is least;(4)For discipline selection,students selecting economics,education,and medicine are the most in number.In short,this set of the College Counselling Questionnaire for Senior High Students has high evaluation reliability and validity,providing beneficial information on occupational cognition and occupational orientation for the students counselling service.
