With scientific progress and economic development, the number of college graduates in China is increasing year by year, and there are many new labor forces and employment needs every year, while the situation of "slow employment" of college students is not optimistic, and these new labor forces have a trend of accumulation year by year.To explore the employment difficulties of college students,we found that most of the reasons are that college students have a shallow understanding of their own careers,so that they cannot make appropriate adjustments to the changing environment to adapt to the society, resulting in the phenomenon of waiting and waiting after graduating from college. This study examines the question of how college students currently perceive their careers.Metaphor is a tool for exploring and understanding new things, and it is also a tool for human cognitive activities. In the face of abstract career, metaphor is proven to be a powerful research method. It also explores the relationship between career metaphors and career decision self-efficacy and career adaptability of college students in the context of career decision self-efficacy and career adaptability of college students,so as to lay the foundation for future research on metaphors in the field of career. This study analyzes and explores college students’ current perceptions of their own careers from the perspective of career metaphors.Based on a bottom-up inductive research paradigm, the career metaphor scale was developed after summarizing and analyzing the collected career metaphor corpus of college students. The study introduced career decision self-efficacy and career adaptability to analyze the characteristics of college students’ career. The study distributed paper and online questionnaires to current college students and used statistical analysis software such as Nvivo12,SPSS25.0,and AMOS25.0,and the following conclusions were drawn through theoretical basis and empirical data testing.(1)The metaphorical representation of college students’ career includes two dimensions, namely "process" and "instrumental" metaphors. The "process" metaphors include "journey","marathon","long-distance running","road" and "navigation"."road","voyage";"instrumental" metaphors include "clothes","sugar","sailing"."sugar","chocolate","rain","love","moon ","waterfall","stone",and "money".(2)There is no difference in the "process" metaphor dimension of career among college students of different genders, household registration and majors, but there is a significant difference in the "instrumental" metaphor dimension.(3)There is a high correlation between career metaphors, career decision self-efficacy and career adaptability among college students.(4)The "process" and "instrumental" dimensions of college students’ career metaphors can positively predict career decision self-efficacy.(5)The "process" and "instrumental" dimensions of college students’ career metaphors can positively predict career adaptability.(6)The "planning","problem solving" and "information gathering" dimensions of career decision self-efficacy can positively predict career adaptability.
