The traffic development experience of foreign developed cities shows that the urban traffic primary strategy will gradually change from building traffic facilities and constructions to travel demand management(TDM) in the later period of urban development, while the traditional four-step model has a poor ability to response the impact of TDM measures. To solove the problem,Some cities choose to upgrade the travel demand model of urban transportation model to tour-based demand model or activity-based demand model to meet the needs of TDM measures evaluation, which provides experience for the upgrading of transportation model in China. This paper introduces the current status of the engineering practice of foreign transportation model, the development direction of traffic model and the modeling method of activity-based demand model considering the intra relationship in family, and designed a Chengdu localized family-based activity-based travel demand model framework which combined with the analysis of residents travel characteristics from the resident trip survey data and draw lessons from foreign activity-based demand model's modeling experience. The model framework can well reflect the travel decisions of chengdu residents in daily activity pattern level, tour level and trip level. The Chengdu localized family-based activity-based demand model proposed in this paper which can reflect the impact of economic measures of TDM,family internal relationships and TDM time management measures on residents' travel can be directly used in Chinese travel demand model's application. The introduction of this new travel demand model will play an important guiding role in the evaluation of TDM measures in most cities in China...
