The 24th International Snow Sculpture Competition Accompanied The Interpretation Practice Report

This interpreting practice report is based on the interpreting task of the 24 th Harbin International Snow Sculpture Competition,in which the author of this report(hereafter referred to as the “author”)is mainly responsible for the escort interpreting work of the Indian team.In this report,after introducing the background of the task and introducing the advance preparation and process of the task,the author,by combining the characteristics and requirements of the escort interpreting,summarizes and analyzes the problems arising in the process of interpreting practice.Those problems include the problems of listening comprehension caused by the difficulty of listening comprehension of Indian accent and by the lack of background information,as well as the problems of the interpretation of the source language into the target language including inappropriate interpretation of snow sculpture terms,improper interpretation of expressions with Chinese characteristics and unclear logic of the interpretation.Through analyzing and studying,the author put forward some corresponding strategies.To cope with the difficulty of listening comprehension of Indian accent and the lack of background information,the author flexibly adopts appropriate questioning and reasonable speculation strategies.As for the three problems existing in the interpretation of the source language into the target language,the author adopts the strategies of literal translation,free translation,omission and amplification.At last,the author makes a task assessment and task summary,hoping to apply these strategies in the further study and practice,so as to improve the quality of interpretation.
