The purpose of this paper is to illustrate the similarities and differences between Marx and Epicurus in their views on the question of human' environment of existence and their development, and to illustrate the changes in the aims of philosophy based on such similarities and differences.By the studying of Epicurus' atomism and Marx's interpretation of it,the paper illustrates the similarities and subtle differences between Epicurus and Marx in their views of the world in which man lives, which in turn lead to their different views on human development and philosophical tasks. On the basis of his atomic deflection,Epicurus negated the fate and the necessity of the existence of the supreme ruler, and gave his own explanation for the existence of human beings in the world: everything in the world is formed by accident, and there is no creator in this world of contingency;and no necessity of the being of the supreme ruler. For the fate of the people,a part of is inevitable, such as aging and death;Partly by chance,as in the formation of man and the world; The rest are determined by their own autonomous activities. For those who break the inevitability of fate,Epicurus thought should pursue the greatest happiness, and philosophy ought to provide service to get this kind of happy.Because the greatest happiness is to eliminate suffering,so the task of philosophy is to help people knowing the root of the pain which caused by celestial bodies and the fear of death, and then eliminate the pain,so philosophy of Epicurus,is just about thinking.Marx saw the possibility of free will in Epicurus' atomic deflection,so he modified the problem in Epicurus' atomism to make the statement about atomic deflection serve his argument for free will.Under the profound influence of Hegel's philosophy and romanticism,Marx demonstrated the objectivity of free will and regarded the real world as the existence of both ideality and materiality. This ideality in the real world was influenced by the principle of free spirit, which on the one hand wanted to separate itself from the materiality of the phenomenal world, and on the other hand struggled with the phenomenal world for the realization of free spirit. The philosophers are the free will which went into this material world' process and they also exist in the real world as the truth of the other shore against with the real world.By introducing the free will into the material world,Marx turned philosophy from pure speculation to practice.Unlike Epicurus' individual man,Marx's philosophy stands and starts from the general and universal man, whose philosophy can also be said to be the whole philosophy of man as a universal. In order to realize the general class of the welfare of the person, the kind of individualism by Epicurus happiness philosophy doesn't work, must put attention to the philosophy of Marx's practice,it is only through practice,as a general class of people can realize their own.
