Shuo Wen Jie Zi wrote in the Eastern Han Dynasty is the earliest dictionary in the history of Chinese language philology,which is arranged by the radical,analyzing the graphemic and the original meaning and the pronunciation of each Chinese characters.It divides the characters into 540 parts,each of which not only contains rich ancient Chinese character materials,but is also a relatively independent cultural epitome.The part of jin of Shuo Wen Jie Zi contains a large number of metal-related characters from the Pre-Qin,Qin and Han dynasties,including agricultural production,handicraft production(metal smelting),military ritual and music culture,daily life utensils,etc,which to some extent reflects the social production and life of ancient China after entering the metal age.The appearance of a large number of excavated writing material enables us to better discuss the development context of the original meaning of characters of the part of jin,which is conducive to better discussing its cultural connotation.This paper makes a comprehensive study on the concept of metal and the social development of the han dynasty reflected by the part of jin,such as the principles of sequence,and the principle of interpretation.The order and interpretation of the part of jin characters embody the principle of linking according to meaning,and have their own characteristics at the same time;The need of social development has promoted the change and development of the part of jin characters,which affects people's cognition of metals and metal objects.The words received by the part of jin,to some extent,reflect the ideological cognition process of Han and Pre-han's people in metal from experience cognition to objective cognition and then to sampling;The agricultural implements recorded in the part of jin characters reflect the Han people's understanding and use of metal agricultural implements in the traditional agricultural era,which is helpful to build a cognition of the development course of agricultural production in ancient China.
