The corpus selected for this simulation practice report is Yu Minhong's speech entitled “Growing up through failure and exploration” given in Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The author carried out a simulation practice of the Chinese-English consecutive interpretation of the corpus. The author found many problems after analyzing the recording, involving metaphorical rhetoric, repeated allegations, lacking logical relationship between filler words and sentences, etc. At the same time, the author also summed up the corresponding strategies to solve these problems, such as:explanatory translation, replacing, cutting, sentence restructuring and manifesting logical relationships. After sorting through the recordings and self-assessment,the author believes that adequate preparation and proper communication strategies before interpreting can effectively improve the quality of interpretation and avoid unnecessary mistakes. The interpreting practice of educational speeches not only is instructive to the study and employment of contemporary college students, but also can help the author accumulate experience and improve interpreting skills.
