As the “Belt and Road Initiative” promotes cultural exchanges between countries,it enables one another to share the prosperity of its diversity.Thus,cross-cultural communication is fundamental.In the context of multicultural era nowadays,the emotional interaction between humans resulted from cross-cultural communication can be best promoted through dance art,essentially.Therefore,the study of cross-cultural in dance teaching is particularly significant at the moment.This thesis mainly focuses on the role of “contextual teaching and learning” approach in the cross-cultural teaching practice of Chinese folk dance with Malaysian students.In order to enhance the students' intercultural learning,the teaching design and class arrangement are mapped out and conducted based on “contextual teaching and learning”approach.The implementation of teaching process and actual experience are summarized,hoping to provide a new thinking for the cross-cultural teaching and dissemination of Chinese folk dance,as well as to contribute to the development of Malaysian Chinese dance.The thesis expands its discussions from three aspects.It first clarifies the necessity of cross-cultural teaching and dissemination of Chinese folk dance and the reason behind selecting “contextual teaching and learning” approach as the core of the dance teaching.It also explores the key issues in teaching Chinese folk dance to students who are from different cultural background.These issues are to be paid attention to and solved based on the researcher's personal learning experience in Beijing Dance Academy.Next in order,researcher analyzed the dance teaching at the Performing Arts of Todern.Based on the analysis,researcher applies “contextual teaching and learning” approach and integrates it with other teaching methods.For instant,using references as element teaching,oral-and-body-language teaching,music engagement,dance critiques session,as well as learning the aesthetic of certain characters in Chinese folk dance.All these are made to fully implement the cross-cultural dance teaching and to meet the needs of students from different cultural contexts while learning Chinese folk dance.The third chapter elaborates on the reflections and reviews arising from the practice of crosscultural dance teaching.According to the collected data from questionnaires and after-class interviews,the finding shows that this teaching method has achieved a certain value and purpose in the intercultural learning process.On this basis,it has come to a realization that one must cultivate and optimize the teaching method in order to attain a highly efficacious teaching pursuits for cross-cultural teaching of Chinese folk dance,as well as to provide a better learning experience for people who are passionate about Chinese folk dance from across the world in the future.
