Language is a tool for people to communicate. Grammar, which is one of the basicelements of language, is the rule of language-forming. Grammar teaching hasalways been the key and hot point in the circle of the teaching of Chinese as aforeign language, for the class efficiency determines whether the teaching targetwould be realized or not and effects the other courses. Phrase, the grammatical termbetween word and sentence, plays a significant role in any language and is a keyaspect of foreign language teaching. This paper focuses on the noun phrases inEnglish and Chinese. Firstly, the definition of noun phrase is given; Secondly, thestructures and modifiers in English and Chinese phrases are compared and studied,then analyze from the cognitive perspective;Thirdly, the differences betweengrammar teaching and school grammar are discussed and propose the constructivestrategies and advice for the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language.
