Teaching children to English songs in primary school play a very important role in language learning,emotional attitude cultivating and cultural awareness fostering.Primary school students are not only interested in English songs,but also recognize the positive role of English songs in promoting learning.Although primary school teachers also recognize the role of English songs,they just use it as a teaching aid.Moreover,many teachers still do not know how to teach English songs for which English songs fail to play their full roles.To study teaching strategies of English songs in primary school,the paper firstly reviews the related literature about “English songs teaching”,clarifying the basic issues of English songs teaching and grasping the current situation of it.Secondly,the paper sorts out the objectives,requirements,and contents of English songs teaching in primary by using“Nine-year Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standards(2011)”and the textbook of New Standard English as the main version.Thirdly,to summarize the strategies of teaching children to learn English songs in national open classes,the paper conducts and analyzes two teaching cases which are selected in the basis of demonstrate classes.Finally,the paper puts forward four strategies for teaching children to learn English songs in primary schools,meanwhile,designs a lesson to illustrate the feasibility of the strategies.The introduction section of this paper mainly shows the basis of selecting the subject,the purposes,the significance,the contents and methods of the study.The main body of this study consists of four chapters.And the first chapter mainly summarizes the existing research achievements and problems of English songs in the aspects of “teaching objectives,teaching effects,teaching principles,teaching methods and teaching evaluations” and “the present situation of English songs teaching in primary school”.Based on the existing issues,the paper puts forward the research direction.The second chapter sorts out the goals and requirements of English songs teaching from National Curriculum Standard level,and analyzes the number,the tune and the lyric of English songs in the textbook of New Standard English.In the third chapter,the paper lays stress on four aspects through demonstrate classes and cases: such as the appropriateness of teaching,the effectiveness of presenting behaviors,the effectiveness of forms of activities and the range of participating activities.Meanwhile,to sum up the strategies of teaching children to learn English songs innational open classes,the author analyzes two teaching cases.The fourth chapter proposes four teaching strategies: choosing suitable songs to reflect teaching characteristics,using with the body movements to express the content of songs,diversifying the singing ways to enrich activity forms,focusing on the text features to guide the adaption songs.Besides,the author designs a lesson as an example of teaching children to learn English songs in primary school to explain the concrete implementation suggestions for teaching strategies.The conclusion part mainly explains the results,innovations and deficiencies of this research,and at the same time,the paper puts forward the direction of the future research.
