Alan Copland's Clarinet Concerto embodies the composer's distinctive "American style" music.Taking this work as the research object, this paper starts with the analysis of the work and the performance skills, and permeates the style characteristics of the whole work by the composer's rich creative techniques and the expression of the skills needed in the performance. This work has been performed by quite a number of performers, and each version reflects the players' understanding of this work. The relatively free form of this work gives players sufficient imagination and space for second creation. The author hopes to have a deep understanding of clarinet works besides classical and romantic styles through studying this work. The work combines popular elements, especially jazz, leading it to be considered a "lightweight" representative of Copland's musical output. But the concerto has much in common with the French neoclassical works of the 1920 s,and testifies to the work's undisputed technical construction. The neoclassical aspect of the concerto raises many important questions as to whether the jazz elements in the work are really essential to its expression,or whether they simply reflect the material chosen jointly by Copland and other neoclassical composers. This tendency to want to have a better understanding and effective processing problems play rhythm of potential players as well as students, discusses the neoclassical influence on Copland style, provides a historical background, the creation of the clarinet concerto and era background and personal style "American spirit" of fusion are presented.
