A Report On The Practice Of Simultaneous Interpretation In English And Chinese At The 138th Plenary Session Of The International Olympic Committee

This practice report is based on the author's English-Chinese simultaneous interpreting practice of the excerpt from the 138 th Session of the International Olympic Committee.The author simulated the scene of IOC session and acted as the interpreter.Through transcription and analysis of the recording of this simultaneous interpreting,three kinds of difficulties are summarized: the unclear logic of target language from long and complex sentences,translationese in simultaneous interpreting,and the difficulty in listening caused by the speaker's accent.The author also concludes that sentence breaking can reduce burden of short-term memory of the interpreter in face of long and complex sentences.And supplement can enhance the logical connection between clauses,so as to solve the problem of unclear output logic of long and complex sentences.The conversion from passive to active voice can eliminate the translationese of passive voice as much as possible.And the reverse interpretation can make the target language of subjunctive mood more consistent with Chinese expression.Inference can reduce the difficulty of listening caused by the speaker's accent.This report aims to provide some help for others dealing with the same difficulties in simultaneous interpreting.
