The Ministry of Education released the National Standards for Teaching Quality of Undergraduate Professional Categories in General Higher Education Schools(2018)and the Guidelines for Teaching Japanese as an Undergraduate Major in General Higher Education Schools(2020),both of which propose to focus on cultivating students' intercultural communication skills and nurturing high-quality international talents.Translating texts on intercultural communication theory can broaden the horizon of intercultural studies in China and serve to improve the quality of teaching intercultural communication. This selection also serves the key research project of economic and social development of Heilongjiang Province(special project of foreign language discipline)"Empirical study on cross-cultural sensitivity of Japanese majors in higher education institutions"(WY2021046-C),which is of great significance. This translation practice report is based on the third part of Theory of Intercultural Communication-A Quest for a New Paradigm, edited by Toshi Is hii,Akimoto Kume and Jun Toyama, and consists of five parts:an overview of translation practice, description of the translation process, overview of transl ation theory, case studies, summary and outlook.Under the guidance of George Steiner's hermeneutic translation theory, the author uses the four steps of "trust-intr usion-absorption-compensation" to analyse the original text in three dimensions, such as vocabulary, sentence and chapter, and adopts various translation techniqu es such as direct translation, additional translation,sub-translation and variant tra nslation to solve the translation difficulties,so as to explore the significance of hermeneutic translation theory for the translation of academic texts.Through translation practice,it can be seen that the four steps of hermeneutic translation theory are operable and instructive for the translation of academic texts on intercultural communication theory. At the same time,it can also provide an example of translation practice for the study of translation practice reports that combine academic texts and hermeneutic translation theory.
