A Study Of Refugee Issues In Germany In The Context Of The European Refugee Crisis

The outbreak of the refugee crisis began in Europe in 2015.There were great challenges for EU countries to face.Germany,one of the major member states of EU,also got stuck in it.On the one hand,Germany's responses influenced the whole process of the European refugee crisis;on the other hand,the overall situation of Europe influenced the evolution of the refugee problem in Germany.Thus,Germany's refugee problem is closely bound up with the overall European refugee crisis.There are three phases in of the refugee crisis in Germany: slow expansion phase,concentrated outbreak phase and gradual extinction phase.There are also differences of specific performance and characteristics in each stage of the refugee problem.Germany has taken different measures in different periods of the specific development of the refugee problem.At the beginning,the government was sitting on the sidelines with hesitation and implemented a conservative and tight refugee policy;with the support of public opinion later on,the Merkel Government decided to take an open and welcome refugee policy;the German social problems broke out with the influx of refugees,which made the German government give up its original decision and tighten the refugee policy gradually again.As for refugee policy,the German government also made some major mistakes.On the one hand,it took he lead in giving up the principle of "first country of asylum " and rashly breached the common asylum system of the European Union,which caused the setback of the process of European integration;on the other hand,it underestimates the severity of the refugee crisis,which leads to its inability to tackle with the influx of refugees.The refugee problem in Germany has had a greater impact,which is reflected both domestically and internationally.The German government can make more efforts in the following three aspects so as to eliminate the ill effects of the refugee crisis on the country: first of all,attach more attention to the protection for refugees in the moment of fighting against epidemic,and prevent the occurrence of major health and safety accidents;secondly,further propel the social integration of refugee groups and decrease social conflicts;lastly,provide more humanitarian assistance to the countries of origin of refugees to cut down the generation of refugees.
