In recent years, transnational crimes have become rampant in the Greater Mekong Subregion, and criminal activities such as drug crimes and human trafficking have brought serious threats to countries and people in the region. The state-led joint governance action was also launched immediately, especially the special governance for drug crimes and human trafficking has achieved certain results. In 2015 the China-led Lancang-Mekong cooperation mechanism was formally established.Through joint law enforcement patrols,“safe waterways”,“anti-trafficking projects” and police cooperation activities,The mechanism established the Lancang-Mekong River Basin Comprehensive Law Enforcement Center and played a significant role in transnational crimes governance, especially in the“Golden Triangle”and Yunnan border areas. At the same time, international organizations have also actively participated in the governance of transnational crimes in the Greater Mekong Subregion. These cooperations have made outstanding contributions to combating transnational criminals, removing criminal factors, and maintaining security and stability in the Greater Mekong Subregion. However, due to the unbalanced level of economic development among the countries of the Greater Mekong Subregion, the low sense of interest identity, and the interference of external forces, the governance of transnational crime in the subregion mostly stops at the surface, and it is difficult to achieve deeper cooperation progress. At the same time, there is a lack of political mutual trust between countries, and the spread of the "China Threat Theory" has also affected China's greater role as a regional power. To better solve the problem of transnational crime in the Greater Mekong Subregion, countries must dispel doubts and increase trust, establish a sense of interest and a unified standard for criminal recognition, strengthen legal cooperation and police cooperation, and avoid being affected by unfavorable factors outside the region. The new security concept with “mutual benefit, equality, and cooperation” as the core is the basis for cooperation to jointly build a prosperous and stable community with a shared future.
