middle school students are more emotional than adults, and their emotions are easily affected by external stimuli. Therefore, most middle school students force themselves to be emotionally indifferent, indifferent to others' affairs and unwilling to help others,in order to reduce their own emotional fluctuations, but do not know that it leads to greater psychological problems. In essence, middle school students are immature in empathy, unwilling to perform altruistic acts, and close themselves off, leading to frequent psychological problems. They think this is a sign of their maturity, but it is just the opposite, this is a reaction to their emotional inadequacy(he zhichang,2017).From the above,I think we can improve the empathy ability and altruistic behavior of middle school students from the two aspects,to stabilize the mood of middle school students, improve the mental health level of middle school students. Therefore, this study introduced empathy and altruistic behavior into the study of middle school students' mental health, and used the method of questionnaire survey and semi-structured interview to explore the relationship between empathy and mental health of middle school students, and to examine the mediating role of altruistic behavior in it.The study consists of two parts: Study 1: A questionnaire survey was conducted among 649 students from three different types of secondary vocational schools in Heyuan. The results were as follows:(1)in demographic variables, there were significant gender differences in empathy, altruistic behavior and mental health of Middle School Students;(2)empathy of middle school students had significant positive predictive effect on altruistic behavior and mental health, altruistic behavior of middle school students can predict their mental health positively, and altruistic behavior can mediate between empathy and mental health.Study 2: Using semi-structured interview method,7 students who took part in study 1 were selected as interview subjects.Qualitative analysis of the interview results showed that the relationship between the variables in study 1 was validated. The implications of this study for parents and school education are also discussed.
