As a result of individual socialization, altruistic behavior is an important part ofpro-social behavior, which is concerned by psychology researchers. This study selectsempathy and social responsibility as the independent variables which influence altruisticbehavior by using the approach of a combination of questionnaires and IAT. From thestudy we can learn about the status of the development in empathy, social responsibilityand altruistic behavior of college students and analyze the relationship among the threevariables. The results of the study show as follows:1. Altruistic behavior in the revised self-report questionnaire has good reliabilityand validity. It is suitable for the college students in Chinese cultural context.2. Overall, the present college students’ altruistic behavior is low at a medium level;Student cadres obviously do better than common students on altruistic behavior andsocial responsibility; It is remarkable that empathy and social responsibility of femalestudents exceed that of male students.3. There is a distinct correlation among altruistic behavior, empathy and socialresponsibility.4. Empathy of college students influence altruistic behavior by the intermediaryrole of social responsibility. The intermediary role of "empathy-social responsibility-altruistic behavior" model of inter-group was consistent in gender and student cadres.5. College students have implicit altruistic behavior tendency, which separatesfrom explicit altruistic behavior. There is no correlation among implicit altruisticbehavior empathy and social responsibility.
