Research learning is to implement the quality education focusing on innovation spirit and practical ability.It's important significance lies in the cultivation of students' independent learning mode.There are many ways of research-based learning,among which the use of network information to carry out research is an effective way to learn the geography around and implement the geographical life.Remote sensing,geographic information system and virtual reality technology are the important dependence of modern geography to become the three major innovation fields in the world,and also become a new way of teaching.Google Earth has become one of the important platforms of geographic research learning because of its powerful three-dimensional visualization interface and geographic information expression ability.This paper attempts to use Google Earth platform to explore the feasibility of geographic research in virtual environment.Through the in-depth interpretation of Google Earth,this paper explores The method of extracting geographical elements from earth is based on the division of research and learning resources in the new curriculum standard of high school geography.It puts forward four principles of constructing geographical element set: education,scientificity,characteristic and modularity.Combined with the specific requirements of geographical practice,it develops three different scales of geographical element set.Combined with the geographical things that can be observed on Google Earth platform,according to the different requirements of high school geography teaching in physical geography and human geography,two research study cases of the development of Xijiang River landform and Guangzhou urban internal spatial structure are designed respectively.Combined with the needs of research and development,the development methods of source data are introduced and demonstrated.The research shows that carrying out research-based learning on Google Earth platform is helpful to guide students to observe geographical things from multiple perspectives,analyze the changing laws of geographical phenomena,strengthen regional cognition,cultivate spatial thinking and improve geographical literacy,but there are also problems such as easy to get lost,difficult to judge atypical phenomena and higher requirements for teachers' comprehensive literacy.At the same time,because the development of the research requires students to have strong computer operation ability,there are obvious differences in learning ability,so it is necessary to train students to learn and operate Google Earth in advance.
