Rethinking Sonnet's "Public Weakness" Viewpoint

Changes in the social environment and the development of Internet technology have blurred the boundaries between the public and private spheres,and changed the pattern of daily life of individual intimacy.In order to adapt to the new network environment,individuals change the traditional way of public participation.This article attempts to analyze the public participation methods of the media in the new media environment,and to rethink the applicability of Sandnet's idea of ?? "weak public" in the Internet age.This article uses the "People's Daily" Weibo official account as the research sample data source,and uses python and crawler software to capture 606 post texts and user behavior data of 30 major public events from 2015 to 2019,social issues 129229 user comment texts for public events.Based on the research results of public participation theory,this study examines public participation intensity and participation validity from two aspects: participation behavior and public expression.In terms of participation behaviors,big data analysis methods are used to study the participation behaviors of Weibo users in participating in public events,and the likes,reposts,and comments are used to analyze the user's behavioral bias in participating in different topics and the overall participation intensity.In terms of public expression,the content analysis method is used to count the characteristic values of narrative personalities,opinion and stand words,emotional words,and cognitive words,and analyze the comprehensive validity of the value orientation and expression rationality of users in the review text.The study found that:(1)The number of non-verbal symbols(likes,retweets)of public people in the new media era is higher than the number of verbal symbols(comments).(2)There are more first-person and public-oriented words in public expression than third-person and personal-oriented words,and there are more cognitive expressions than emotional expressions.Sandnet's view of "weakness of the public" can be summarized as the weakening of participation intensity and effectiveness.The research results show that the intensityof public participation has an increasing tendency in the behavioral meaning of non-verbal signs;the validity of public participation has improved in the sense of first person and rational discourse.In the sense of the indicators examined,public persons have strengthened.Therefore,this article considers Sandett's point of view to be too pessimistic,which is not entirely applicable to cyberspace.
