Public participation is an important way to realize social democracy.College students,as important representatives of socialist democracy construction, have public spirit and public quality, which affect the process of social democracy to a certain extent. However, related researches show that college students have some problems such as weak awareness of public participation and weak initiative of participation. Therefore, this study adopts the method of questionnaire survey to carry out empirical research on four public universities in Nanjing.Based on the theory of planned behavior in social psychology, this study explores the main factors affecting college students' intention of public participation from the perspectives of attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavior control and some demographic variables.Through the research,we can deeply understand the causes of difficulties in college students' public participation,so as to provide data support and improvement strategies for universities to enhance their enthusiasm in public participation and promote their participation in public life.In this study, counselors, teachers and students assisted in collecting 850 valid questionnaires online by means of convenient sampling, with an effective rate of93.61%.In this study, software SPSS22.0 and AMOS21.0 were used for data analysis. The research results are as follows: 1.The questionnaire of college students' public participation intention has passed the reliability and validity test, and the research data are stable and reliable.2.The average value of the public participation intention scale of college students reaches 3.671,which indicates that college students' public participation intention is generally positive, but there is still some room for improvement.3.Attitude,subjective norms and perceived behavioral control are significantly correlated with public participation intention.4.Attitude,subjective norms and perceived behavioral control have positive predictive effect on public participation intention, and can explain 56.1%,45% and 28.3% of variation of behavioral intention, respectively. After excluding the confounding interference of gender, household registration and grade control variables, attitude, subjective norm and perceived behavior control explained 59.5% of the variation of public participation intention.5.According to the difference test results of demographic variables, demographic variables such as gender, household registration and grade have no significant difference in public participation intention. Therefore, the following three suggestions are put forward: 1.Establish a three-dimensional support network of family, school and society, and guide college students to have a positive attitude towards public affairs by setting up specialized courses, organizing related activities or setting up a mechanism for evaluating excellence and awards.2.We should pay attention to the exemplary role of relatives, teachers and classmates,as well as the guiding role of the government,non-governmental organizations and news media on the public participation intention of college students,so as to enhance the enthusiasm of college students to participate in public affairs in their daily study and life.3.It is necessary to improve the students' inner confidence in participation and improve the external conditions for participation. On the one hand, training courses and activities related to public participation can be set up to enhance college students' confidence and skills in public participation. On the other hand, timely information, convenient ways and fair opportunities for college students to participate in public affairs should also be provided,so as to promote them to participate in public affairs more actively.
