Mathematics comes from and serves life.Mathematical modeling is a bridge between mathematics and the real world and plays an important role in solving mathematical problems.The ministry of education of the People's Republic of China has made mathematical modeling one of the six core qualities in the standard of mathematics curriculum for ordinary high schools(2017 edition),which further clarifies the key position of mathematical modeling in mathematics.Through relevant theories and literature review,this paper establishes the dimensions of mathematical modeling literacy,and through empirical investigation studies the status quo of mathematical modeling literacy of students in grade 2 of two middle schools in ganzhou city.Firstly,in terms of theoretical analysis,the mathematical modeling literacy is divided into three dimensions and five levels,according to which questionnaires and test papers are elaborately prepared.The content of the questionnaire includes three dimensions of mathematical modeling situation,mathematical modeling process and mathematical modeling knowledge,among which each dimension is divided into two dimensions,and the test paper is used to test students' mathematical modeling ability.Secondly,in terms of empirical investigation,a unified test was conducted on 407 students in two middle schools in ganzhou city with the research tool developed.After the test,the overall test results and the performance of each dimension were analyzed.The differences of gender,school,subject and class were analyzed,and a semi-structured interview was designed for several math teachers and tested students as a supplement and extension of the test.Finally,it is found through analysis that :(1)The overall level of students' mathematical modeling literacy is good,and the average level can reach the third level;(2)There is no significant difference between students under the influence of gender and school section,but the level of mathematical modeling of students in different classes differs greatly;(3)Students performed best in the social context,assessment process,statistics and probability,and lowest in the scientific context,modeling process,geometry and algebra.(4)There is a certain correlation between students' level of mathematical modeling literacy and their academic performance.Through the interview and result analysis,the following Suggestions are given:(1)strengthen teacher's professional training and improve teachers' mathematical modeling;(2)close to the life situation,stimulate learning interest;(3)to strengthen students' ability of reading comprehension in mathematics,to cultivate students' ability of creative thinking;(4)Establishment of mathematical modeling teaching evaluation system;(5)increase mathematical modeling activities and competitions,and offer academic lectures on mathematical modeling.
