| When the integration of curriculum reform and the innovation of personnel training have become the new trend of international education reform,China has also begun to attach importance to the implementation of STEAM curriculum in primary and secondary school classrooms. In 2013,the first STEAM Education Innovation Forum for Primary and Secondary Schools was held in Wenzhou,Zhejiang Province(changed to the National STEAM Education Conference for Primary and Secondary Schools in 2016).In 2018,the China Academy of Educational Sciences named “The First Batch of STEAM Education Seed Schools in the Country”.STEAM education has been in full swing in urban areas of China. However,in this wave of education, there are few rural schools. Can STEAM Curriculum be implemented in Rural Primary Schools? What will be the effect of the implementation? What are the factors that affect the implementation of STEAM curriculum in rural primary schools? The purpose of this study is to take the answers to these questions as the basic research background. This study mainly adopts the method of case study, taking five rural primary schools that have participated in STEAM curriculum training organized by XX Education Foundation as examples, collecting data through interviews, observation and consulting documents, and sorting out, summarizing and analyzing the data. This paper sorts out the STEAM curriculum design and implementation process of five case schools, analyzes the influencing factors of the implementation of STEAM curriculum in rural primary schools, and puts forward some countermeasures and suggestions for the implementation of STEAM curriculum in rural primary schools. The study found that the implementation of STEAM curriculum in rural primary schools is conducive to students’ learning cultural knowledge and improving students’ ability to solve problems. It is conducive to changing students’ learning methods and cultivating students’ higher-level thinking and multiple abilities. It is conducive to the establishment of connections between students and the community and the cultivation of students’ love for the surrounding environment. It is conducive to enhancing teachers’ curriculum awareness and improving teachers’ professional quality.Whether STEAM curriculum can be successfully implemented in rural primary schools is affected by many factors such as principals’ approval and support behavior to STEAM curriculum, teachers’ curriculum execution, and the support of education administrative departments and other personnel. Therefore,in order to carry out STEAM curriculum in rural primary schools,we should first change the concept of principals, let them understand the nature of education, and promote the implementation of STEAM curriculum in school;secondly,we should strengthen teacher training, let them pay attention to the cultivation of students’ knowledge and ability, and improve the quality of curriculum;finally,we should build a sharing platform of STEAM curriculum resources in rural primary schools,in order to obtain more recognition and support. |
