As the educational foundation and romance stage of life, primary education requires the support of holistic education that needs to be based on teachers’ interdisciplinary competence.Currently,in rural areas of our country the realistic problems such as the lack of educational resources, the educational inequity and imbalance are more prominent.Among many strategies to solve the aforementioned problems, cultivating interdisciplinary competence of holistic teachers in rural primary schools is an important choice. It is not only becoming an urgent task for the construction of rural teachers under the background of China’s Rural Revitalization in the new era,but also a necessary means to solve rural education problems. For primary school holistic teachers(Hereinafter referred to as “PSHTs”),the interdisciplinary competence(Hereinafter referred to as “IC”)refers to the dialectical, systematic, integrative and innovative stable education and teaching characteristic system of primary school teachers through multi-disciplinary interrelationships to promote the primary students’ well-rounded development, including five key elements of ability of knowledge integration, problem solving, learning guidance, organization design and evaluation improvement. With this competence,PSHTs can better undertake and complete the mission of holistic education in primary schools. In order to explore the effective strategies for cultivating the IC of PSHTs,on the one hand, through preliminary theoretical research, this research will construct the connotation and structure of the IC of PSHTs;on the other hand, through empirical investigation,it will analyze and grasp the structure and characteristics of the IC of PSHTs so as to discover the problems with the IC structure and cultivation of the PSHTs in H city.By analyzing the causes of these problems, the cultivation strategies of the IC of PSHTs will be explored. Therefore, theoretically this research provides a new understanding of the connotation,a new perspective,a new content to the competence structure of PSHTs,and new ideas for the competence improvement of the rural primary school teachers.Additionally,it practically helps to promote the balanced and fair development of the compulsory education in our country, enhance the effect of classroom teaching, and promote students’ key competence and sustainable lifelong development. This research adopts literature analysis, questionnaire survey, interview, and grounded theory method to investigate the IC of PSHTs in H City,Hubei Province. It found that:(1)the structure of PSHTs has generally complete dimensions;(2)the performance of knowledge integration is strong;(3)the structure of problem-solving competence is complete;(4)the elements of learning guidance competence are balanced;(5)and dialectical thinking ability of PSHTs is prominent; However,on the whole, due to the factors such as the influence of departmental teaching, weak interdisciplinary consciousness, teachers’ insufficient experience and constrained interdisciplinary practice, the PSHTs in H city have the realistic problems such as obvious IC inadequacy, weak organizational design capabilities, serious lack of innovative thinking, reluctance of interdisciplinary practice and so forth. To solve the existing problems of the IC of PSHTs in a targeted manner,it is indispensable to comprehend and adopt various strategies such as the strategy of independent self-learning,training with research, action of practice, experience, and joint promotion in education and teaching practice. With these strategies, the cultivation of the IC of PSHTs will be strongly supported.
