In 2011,the Philippine Ministry of Education and the Confucius Institute at Angeles University Foindation signed a special project cooperation agreement to supervise and train local Chinese teachers in the Philippines.This marked the official launch of the Chinese language teaching project in public high schools.Compared with the Chinese language schools,the Chinese language teaching in public high schools in the Philippines started late,but the speed of development is fast and the coverage is wide,so there is a large gap in Chinese language teachers.In order to understand the teaching situation of local Chinese teachers in public high schools in the Philippines,9 public high schools in Cebu were selected,and 28 local Chinese teachers and 294 Chinese learners were surveyed by means of questionnaire survey.Teachers were surveyed in terms of professional motivation,teaching methods,teaching ability,teaching design,etc.;students were surveyed in terms of learning motivation,learning attitude,learning behavior,YCT scores,etc.Through the statistical analysis of the survey results,it is found that the local Chinese teachers in the Philippines have the following teaching advantages: smooth communication of teaching auxiliary languages,selection of teaching content close to the actual situation of students,strong teaching adaptability,strong classroom management ability,and the ability to track students' learning feedback in time But there are also some shortcomings,such as excessive reliance on translation and question-and-answer methods,lack of Chinese character teaching,and solidification of assessment methods.In order to further understand the specific situation,we conducted in-depth interviews with 7local Chinese teachers in Cebu area to understand their response to the supervision of Chinese language teacher volunteers and follow-up training,and to understand their professional needs.In response to the results of the survey and interviews,relevant suggestions are put forward:based on the teacher's identity,establish a lifelong learning concept;strengthen international education cooperation to improve the level of Chinese teaching;increase policy inclination to mobilize teachers' teaching enthusiasm;tap internal resources to improve teachers' professional quality.It is hoped that through the China-Philippines cooperation project,a group of outstanding local Chinese teachers will be cultivated for the Philippines,and the quality of Chinese teaching in public high schools will be continuously improved.
