The phenomenon of “reversion” really entered the field of higher education research in the 1990 s.After entering the 21 st century,the term “reversion” appeared largely in the field of higher education research.The mainstream of higher education at home and abroad is increasingly inclined to “reversion”,which may be an adherence to tradition or a response to the challenges of the new era.This study adopts the literature research method and historical research method,through reference,collation,and analysis of relevant Chinese and foreign documents,trying to theoretically discuss,generalize and think about the “reversion” of the nature,the“reversion” of the structure,and the “reversion” of the mode of higher education at the historical level,in order to summarize the laws of the “reversion” of higher education and provide a theoretical reference system for the phenomenon of“reversion” of higher education.Based on the analysis of the relevant theories and connotations of “reversion”and etymological interpretation,combined with the historical development of higher education,the “reversion” phenomenon of higher education can be understood as a phenomenon existing in the development process of higher education and affected by the external environment and internal logic,which develops upward in a spiral shape and achieves the transcendence and recovery to the initial phenomenon in the ideal stage through the constant adaptation and adjustment of the initial stage,the hidden stage and the ideal stage.The “reversion” phenomenon of higher education is mainly influenced by politics,economy and culture in the external environment,and is mainly influenced by power,belief,and tradition in the internal logic.The “reversion”of higher education has the characteristics of continuity,adaptability,transcendence and uncertainty.Although the “reversion” of higher education has the aspects of retreating and unchanging,the ideal period is an essential transcendence of the initial period in general.Based on the above interpretation of the connotation of the“reversion” of higher education,the “reversion” of the nature of higher education is examined with Chinese “public and private coexistence” as a starting point.The development law and trend drawn is that the coexistence of public and private has become a trend,the role of private institutions has changed,and it is also a motivation and resistance.Taking the British “Unified system” as the starting point to examine the “reversion”of the higher education structure,the development laws and trends obtained are “internal logic dominated;external environment assisted;impetus is also resistance;convergence also requires differences.” Taking the “elitism” of the United States as the starting point to investigate the “reversion” of higher education mode,the development laws and trends obtained are “enrich the connotation of elite education and improve quality development of colleges and universities;differentiate the functions of universities and coordinate outstanding equal education;lay the role of external promotion and adhere to internal traditional beliefs;grasp the general trend of the information age and promote the steady development of education.” We can summarize the common laws contained in these: the “reversion” of higher education is the main theme of the current world-wide reform;the “reversion” of higher education is often the result of the combined effects of internal and external factors;The “reversion” of higher education is achieved through social adaptation and adjustment.In today's era when the “reversion” of higher education is constantly being called for,this study,which is related to redefine its concept,discuss the“reversion” of different aspects of the nature,structure,and mode of higher education,and get a preliminary conclusion of its development laws and trends,will undoubtedly have important theoretical significance and reference value for the future high-quality development of higher education in our country.
