The reading system of the self-reading text is significantly different from that of the taught reading text in that there are no pre-reading prompts in the selfreading text, but rather reading prompts and side comments. The article also discusses how to use the reading prompts in self-reading texts to teach students' independent learning development. The article tries to explore and summarize the value and characteristics of the reading prompts of self-reading texts by comparing and analyzing the reading prompts of self-reading texts in junior high school language textbooks, and outlines the problems that exist in actual teaching based on the results of field surveys in internship schools.I also hope to bring inspirational meaning to the "teaching" and "learning" of self-reading texts. This paper is divided into three parts to study the reading prompts for self-reading texts.Firstly,by compiling the bibliographies of the six books of the junior high school language,we extracted and summarized the reading prompts of self-reading texts, and tried to find out the basis of writing, the characteristics of writing, and the meaning and value of writing.Secondly, some students and all language teachers from the first to the third grade in the internship school were surveyed in the form of questionnaires on the understanding, use and evaluation of the reading prompts, and it was found that the teachers and students had problems in handling the reading prompts.Teachers do not make good use of reading prompts, students do not pay enough attention to reading prompts, and in the process of self-study,they are unable to grasp reading prompts and integrate reading prompts and self-study better, resulting in unsatisfactory self-study effect. Finally, this paper focuses on the problems and reasons for the use of reading prompts in reality, and makes suggestions on what role teachers should play in selfstudy texts, how to handle reading prompts appropriately, and how to let students really improve their self-study ability. The learning of self-reading texts should be studentoriented,a process in which students try to apply the experience and language knowledge they have acquired from the taught reading texts in self-reading texts. As a reading aid for self-reading texts, the reading prompts should be made more readable,so that they can be used as a prompting resource to maximize their value.
