| As a Mandarin teacher,the writer worked for Carron Primary School,based in Falkirk,Scotland for 10 months.This thesis is based on teaching experiences gained during this time,including the recorded cases of Chinese teaching lessons and Chinese cultural activities in detail during the teaching.In addition,the writer also analyzes the cases deeply according to the results and feedback with the methods of literature analysis,questionnaire survey and other research methods.Finally,the writer offers his own advice for each case in order to contribute to the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language.The paper has chosen the P3 to P7 students in Carron Primary School as its object of study.This thesis is recorded on the basis of knowing the educational system of Scotland,with a large quantity of local class observations,summarized local teaching approaches,methods of class management and local modern language teaching targets,with the help of relevant teaching theories.Both Mandarin linguistic knowledge,including phonetics,characters,vocabulary and grammar,and Chinese cultural experiential teaching methods could be seen in these teaching cases,and all of them are all the writer’s original work.On the premise of clarifying the content of the educational system of Scotland and its local language policies firstly,this dissertation introduces the current situation of Mandarin teaching in Carron Primary School.It was found that there would be many problems such as incomplete teaching system,imperfect curriculum arrangement and low learning motivation of students during teaching procedures because the school started Mandarin class for the first time.Secondly,this paper discusses and analyzes the teaching cases which were recorded during teaching procedures.Mandarin linguistic knowledge and Chinese cultural activities are selected as two examples.Mandarin linguistic knowledge cases specifically include the tones in pronunciation,simple characters knowledge,vocabularies about numbers and animals and the simple sentence patterns explanation.Chinese cultural activities cases include the origin legend of “Nian”,dumpling making,calligraphy practice and Chinese film appreciation.The author proposes distinct solutions to specific problems in different cases.Ultimately,this article renders relevant teaching guidance in terms of teaching methods,teaching design,teaching resources,and class activities regarding the Chinese learning situation of primary and secondary school students who are in the beginner level of learning Chinese in Scotland.Aiming at the learners of this type,teachers should adopt Theme-Based teaching,and design teaching activities based on notional-functional principle.Meanwhile,teachers should also emphasize the principal status of students in the class,stimulate their motivation to learn Chinese and encourage students to learn actively. |
