Education methods keep changing as time and knowledge change.STEAM education theory emerges in the face of current social demand for compound talents.STEAM education theory originated in the United States,and has arouse great concern as it meets the trends of global education development and our country's requirements for future education development and reform.STEAM education focused on the exploration and solutions to practical issues instead of traditional "textbook".It bridges the gaps between separate subjects in traditional teaching,and emphasizes interdisciplinary learning and unity of knowledge.It assesses students according to their cooperation and creation ability in the process of solving problems,instead of score-based assessment system.All these advantages contribute to the research of our country's fundamental education to a great extent.As a kind of folk art among China's rich culture,Weifang kite has local characteristics.Its making process needs interdisciplinary knowledge,which meets STEAM education theory.The teaching practice in Weifang Kite Club will somehow unify different subjects,cultivate students' cooperation and creation ability,and positively impact their achievement.These educational values conform to the current STEAM education theory.Therefore,it is important to set up Weifang Kite Club in junior high schools and do some research on it.Taking engine design procedures as a reference,this thesis analyzes the STEAM-based design and practice of club activities using Weifang Kite Club as an access point.During the exploration,students will meet various problems faced by Weifang Kite,learn how to make it,and appreciate its characteristics.Then they put forward problem-solving solutions integrating arts,science and maths.Based on through communication and collaboration,they choose the best solution and put it into practice.All these result in students who embrace collaboration,persist in problem-solving and work through the creative process.By discussing kite's flight principle,students optimize its making process and then fly,experience the unique beauty,science and culture of Weifang Kite.All these benefit a lot in respect of students art cultivation and science literacy.This thesis is divided into five chapters.The Introduction part states significance,research contents and methods of this thesis,along with current study on STEAM education and Weifang Kite both at home and abroad;Chapter 1introduces STEAM education and Weifang Kite,and the relationship between them;Chapter 2 makes a survey on STEAM education and Weifang Kite by visiting students and art teachers of junior high schools in Weifang and Jinan.The survey learns practical situation and problems in this area,and analyzes the reasons.The above research offers experience for design and implementation of club activities.In this part,the feasibility and necessity of organizing STEAM-based club activities themed on Weifang Kite in junior high school are stated;Chapter 3 discusses the design,target and content,teaching method and assessment of club activities;Chapter 4 states 3 teaching cases and elaborates on teaching process so as to offer reference to Weifang Kite Club in junior high schools.The three cases are activities themed on “Inherit Craft and Feel Craftsmanship”,“When Tradition Meets with Creation”,and “Fly A Kite in Spring” respectively;Chapter 5 discusses the practical results and future trend of club activities,and summarizes the achievements and the author's reflection on club activities,and describes study prospects Weifang Kite club.
