Cultivating students' core quality is the requirement of the times for talent training, and the core of this quality is thinking. As far as geography teaching is concerned, the primary task of teaching is to cultivate students' geographical thinking ability.Unlike other subjects, the geographical environment is a complex synthesis. The various elements of the geographical environment interact with each other and constantly carry out material migration and energy conversion. Therefore, the construction of the break-even model can simplify and visualize the complex geography, and can deduce the comprehensive change of the geographical process of various elements, which is helpful to improve students' geographical thinking ability.Based on the constructivist learning theory and cognitive discovery learning theory, this paper comprehensively uses the literature method, questionnaire method, interview method and other research methods to explore how to use the break-even model to cultivate high school students' geographical thinking ability.Firstly,it further defines the concepts of geographical thinking ability, model, and break-even model through literature review and analysis;secondly,it expounds the scientificity and innovativeness of using the break-even model to cultivate the high school students' geographical thinking ability;thirdly, through questionnaire and interview,it analyzes and summarizes the existing problems and reasons of using the break-even model to cultivate the high school students' geographical thinking ability;fourthly,it points out that the establishment of the break-even model should follow the principle of students'subjectivity, the principle of geography discipline and the principle of simplicity and intuitiveness, and gives the general steps of the establishment of break-even model.Based on the survey results and the analysis of the break-even model,it proposes the following strategies to cultivate students' geographical thinking ability by using the break-even model:(1)Cultivate geographical image thinking ability through strengthening modeling consciousness;(2)Train the high school students' geographical logical thinking ability through the establishment of analytical model;(3)Cultivate the ability of geographical innovation thinking through the transfer application model;(4)Cultivate the comprehensive thinking ability of geography through the development of change model.Fifthly,by taking the lesson "water cycle" in the third chapter of high school geography(compulsory 1 of People's Education Press)as an example,it carries on the teaching case design, and selects two classes to do the comparative experiment, the experimental results show that the break-even model can improve the ability of students to solve geographical problems, and improve the students' geographical thinking ability.
