With further development of curriculum reform in China,new requirements regarding the compilation and the application of textbooks have been raised.As the direct users of textbooks,teachers and students play an important role in evaluating textbooks,and their demands and comments will become the decisive factors which need to be considered in the designing process.According to previous studies,it is found that most of the existing studies analysed the application of textbooks from the perspective of teachers.In recent years,the researches based on students' use of textbooks has been gradually concerned,but the majority of researches paid attention to other subjects while the research on mathematics textbooks in junior high schools is still empty.This study uses scientific approaches such as questionnaire,survey,and interview.The application of mathematics textbooks which is used by teachers and students in a junior middle school in Shenyang,Liaoning Province would be investigated and analyzed.Firstly,the literature review would be conducted to confirm the research content.Secondly,the questionnaire will be designed and interview outline will be compiled to find out the current situation of students' mathematics-textbooks-use.Finally,through the analysis of the questionnaire and interview,the problems existing in application of mathematics textbooks could be summarised and reasonable suggestions on how to use mathematics textbooks efficiently could be given.From analysis,three main problems occurred when junior high school students use mathematics textbooks are as follows: 1.It does not fully reflect the diversity of use purposes;2.Some contents of textbooks have not been used at an ideal level;3.The understanding of textbooks is inefficient.To solve the problems,some suggestions from the perspectives of both students and teachers are given in this paper.For students,there are two things could be changed: 1.Set up realistic study goals which are suitable for students' level;2.Improve students' self-learning ability;for teachers,there are three aspects which can be improved: 1.Deepen the interpretation and improve the understanding of textbooks;2.Use mathematics textbooks creatively;3.Guide students to use mathematics textbooks correctly.
