An Empirical Study On The Digital Divide Of The Elderly In The Intelligent Age

At present,China is facing a very serious problem of aging population.According to the prediction,by 2022,China will be entering an aging society from an aging society,and the elderly population will account for more than 14% of the total population.According to the survey,the most common leisure and entertainment activity of the elderly in China is watching TV.As a medium connecting the elderly and TV,the importance of remote control is self-evident.With the advent of the intelligent era,intelligent technology products emerge in endlessly.With the popularity of intelligent TV and intelligent set-top box,remote control is constantly updated and upgraded.The biggest change is the simplification of keys and the addition of voice interaction function.Due to the complexity and uncertainty of intelligent technology,there are great challenges for the elderly to use it.At present,most of the researches on the digital gap between intelligent products and the elderly tend to the research on smart phones and their additional applications,while ignoring the research on the digital gap of TV remote control,a technology product often used by the elderly in the family.Therefore,whether there is a digital divide in the process of using TV intelligent voice remote control for the elderly,what are the digital divide problems,what are the causes,and how to solve the digital divide between the elderly and intelligent products in the intelligent era are worthy of in-depth study.This paper uses the method of questionnaire survey,supplemented by in-depth interviews,to investigate the use of TV intelligent voice remote control for the elderly,and analyze the performance and causes of digital divide.The results show that the digital divide problems mainly focus on the interaction logic between remote control and TV,Pinyin search input and the use of intelligent voice function.Through the correlation test,we know that the social characteristics of age,education,health status can significantly affect the use difficulty of the elderly.The psychological barriers of technology acceptance,the insufficient design of products for the elderly,the lack of digital feedback and the absence of digital assistance from the government and the community also have a significant impact on the use difficulty of the elderly.In other words,the production and promotion of TV intelligent voice remote control for the elderly investigated in this research institute,to a certain extent,has actually set a digital gap to the elderly group,increasing their viewing difficulty.Finally,from the national,community and individual levels,this paper puts forward possible ways to bridge the digital problems faced by the elderly in the intelligent era,and puts forward suggestions on the optimization of intelligent device technology and design.
