The development of students' views on the nature of science has always been a key concern in the field of education, and educational documents in various countries have highlighted the importance of having a good view of the nature of science for students' development. The history of chemistry is an account of scientists' investigations and describes the process of scientific knowledge production, which is rich in the essence of science. It has been found that in practice, when teachers introduce the history of chemistry into their teaching, they tend to ignore the process of inquiry, and the phenomenon of 'focusing on conclusions rather than process' is prominent. Therefore,it is important to highlight the process of inquiry in the history of chemistry and to develop students' view of the nature of science by using the history of chemistry to teach inquiry. The aim of this study is to find out how to use the history of chemistry to develop students' view of the nature of science through teaching practices and reflections. The aim is to explore the ideas and methods of using the history of chemistry to develop students' views on the nature of science through teaching practice and reflection."The students in the third year(6)class of a middle school in Lanzhou City were taken as the subjects of the study and three rounds of action research were carried out.The research was conducted through questionnaires, classroom videos and post-class interviews to understand the development of students' views on various aspects of science and classroom teaching, reflect on the problems in the classroom, and adjust teaching ideas for improvement in the light of the development of students' views on the nature of science.Based on the three rounds of action research, the main conclusions of this paper are as follows: first,Through the three rounds of action research,we found that: in the inquiry teaching, the history of chemistry is used as a clue to integrate the essence of science issues into the process of scientific inquiry, and students are guided to independently summarise the essence of science and reflect on the scientific process in the inquiry process, which can enhance students' sense of participation and deepen their impressions, and is conducive to the development of students' view of the essence of science.Second,Prior to teaching, both survey data and interview data indicated that students' understanding of the nature of science was not satisfactory. After three rounds of action research, students' views on the nature of science were developed to varying degrees, especially in the dimensions of "temporary, subjectivity, imagination and creativity, society and culture, and observation and inference",while their understanding of "empirical, theoretical and legal" did not change significantly. The understanding of "empirical, theoretical and legal" has not changed significantly.
