China has a long history of over 5000 years,during which a great deal of splendid traditional culture has emerged and still remains sparkling after the baptism of the time.Ancient Chinese novels play an important role not only in Chinese culture but also in high school Chinese teaching,therefore,ancient Chinese novels are of great significance for teaching.Seeing that the daily life of high school students has little association with ancient Chinese novels on account of different background of the times,it tends to take high school students more time to comprehend the words and sentences of the Ancient Chinese novels.As a consequence,the majority of the high school students lack interest in learning ancient Chinese novels in high school Chinese textbooks.In addition,the ancient Chinese novels account for less scores in the Chinese papers of College Entrance Examination,and that’s why a great many teachers take "perfunctory teaching" in order to complete the teaching task.With the deepened implementation of Chinese curriculum reform,the focus of the educational objective of the Chinese teaching in high schools has gradually been transformed to quality education,striving to enhance students’ cultural literacy.Under such circumstance,this research puts forward relevant suggestions on how to solve various problems currently existing in the teaching of Chinese ancient novels.This research consists of the following four parts:The introduction and literature review of this paper elaborate the reasons for selecting the topic as well as the research significance,and make a theoretical analysis of the current status of the teaching of ancient Chinese novels.Chapter one is about the selected works of ancient novels in Chinese textbooks for high school,which mainly takes the PEP Chinese textbooks for high schools as an example to analyze the ancient Chinese novels selected by the textbooks as well as their characteristics,in a bid to have a macro understanding of the teaching of ancient Chinese novels.Chapter two is about the problems currently existing in the teaching of ancient novels in Chinese textbooks for high school as well as the causes,which mainly elaborates various problems currently existing in the teaching of ancient novels,such as students’ utilitarian learning attitude,students’ lack of interest in reading ancient novels,as well as teachers’ inappropriate teaching methods,in addition,it also explores the factors related to the influence of the social environment,the teachers and the students,so as to discover the crucial causes of the above-mentioned problems.Based on the problems mentioned in Chapter two,Chapter three puts forward the countermeasures for the teaching of ancient novels selected in Chinese textbooks for high schools from the perspectives of the selection of teaching contents,the analysis of teachers’ teaching methods,establishing a multi-learning platform centered on students’ exercises,as well as perfecting the evaluation mechanism etc.,expecting to provide certain reference for various teachers in teaching practice.
