The quadratic function has a high status in mathematics of junior high schools,which is an effective combination of all knowledge leaning in whole junior school period.Except the importance in junior high mathematics,it is still difficult to learn well.Due to strong comprehensiveness,quadratic function plays the final stage in entrance examination for senior school mathematics in various provinces and cities,and occupies a large percentage in scores.The learning about quadratic function takes important influences on senior high school mathematics learning,even the other scientific subjects.While the real situation to the quadratic function is that there are difficulties for students to learn and confusions for teachers to teach.As teachers,it is eager for them to know the difficulties of students in learning quadratic function so as to change the current poor situations.This paper carries out researches on the reasons for difficulties of Grade Nine students in learning quadratic function.Firstly,the writer checks amounts of documents,including researches on similar questions,the exams for senior schools entrance in the past five years in Ya’an city,the specific request of quadratic function in new curriculum standard,the cognitive level of junior students,and the relevant documents of learning difficulties.Combining with writer’ s own teaching experience,and taking surveys by questionnaire and interview,it is analyzed that the reasons for difficulties of students in learning quadratic function are :(1)subjective reasons,including gender element,poor learning mood,improper learning attitude,insufficient interests and initiative in learning.(2)objective reasons.the learning is memory rather than understanding about concepts,analytical form,image and properties.the ability in drawing is poor,without integrated abilities in analyzing questions of symbolic-graphic combination.And the abilities in dealing with real problems and comprehensive problems are poor either.Based on the interviews with front-line teachers,the writer analyzes that the difficulties of students in leaning quadratic function are :(1)the reasons of knowledge itself as it is comprehensive and abstract.(2)there is difference between cognitive level and knowledge base.(3)The cultivation of teachers to students are not enough,who are only pay attentions to the exam points in a single teaching mode.Based on above analysis on teachers and students,the modifications of teaching can be conducted in below aspects to help students decrease difficulties in learning,(1)provide corresponding teaching based on the gender characteristics.(2)help students establish the confidence in learning.(3)emphasize that the process of learning is help students complete the sense building of knowledge,rather than results.(4)take care of the permeation of thoughts of “symbolic-graphic combination”.(5)the varieties of teaching modes.
