Problem solving ability is one of the key points of talent core accomplishment in the 21 st century, which has become an important development strategy in the field of education in various countries. The cultivation of problem solving ability is more and more important, but the problem solving ability of students in our country is very weak.STEAM the vigorous development of education,it is gradually recognized internationally as the foundation of economic growth and the cultivation of core skills in the 21 st century.STEAM education is mainly project-driven or problem-driven,through the combination of students' cooperative communication and independent inquiry to effectively complete the project or solve the problem of an educational way. This study attempts to construct a STEAM teaching model based on problem-solving based on the compatibility of problem-solving ability and STEAM education, and carries on the teaching practice according to this teaching model design related STEAM cases. The author firstly defines the related concepts of STEAM education and problem-solving ability training and analyzes the current research situation;Secondly, the author combs the theory of problem-solving mode,STEAM teaching mode, and constructs the STEAM teaching mode based on problem-solving according to the scaffold teaching mode, the cognitive process of problem-solving ability in 2012 PISA,the constituent elements of STEAM teaching mode and the basic operation flow of PBL.Then according to the STEAM teaching mode based on problem solving and combining the learning characteristics and teaching content of middle school students, five STEAM cases with the theme of "boat" are designed; Finally, two parallel classes at the higher level of middle school were used as the experimental subjects to carry out quasi-experimental research.During the course of the study, the students' data were collected by questionnaire, test questions, experimental record table and so on.By SPSS software, the differences between the experimental group and the control group in exploring and understanding ability, representation and modeling ability, planning and execution ability, monitoring and reflection ability were compared. The main conclusions of this study are as follows:(1)Compared with the traditional single subject teaching,STEAM case teaching based on problem solving can better cultivate students' ability of exploration and understanding, representation and modeling, planning and execution, monitoring and reflection, that is,problem solving ability.(2)Different genders do not produce significant differences after receiving STEAM case teaching based on problem-solving ability, that is,the teaching effect of STEAM cases is consistent with that of boys and girls.
