"The Whole-book Reading of A Dream of Red Mansions" is a hot topic of common concern among the Chinese language educational researchers.The new curriculum standards have stipulated 18 task-learning groups aiming at the comprehensive training in "Chinese core literacy".Among them is the first task group of "Reading and Discussion of the Whole Book".It has been shown that Whole-book Reading has an important value on the training in the literacy of core of the subject.As one of my country’s four great masterpieces,A Dream of Red Mansions is also of great significance to the cultivation of students’ core literacy and reading ability.However,in practice,due to such factors as the penetration of test-oriented education concepts,the decline of reading literacy of teachers and students,and the solidification of the models of classics selecting,reading and teaching,the whole-book reading of A Dream of Red Mansions has not been normalized in teaching,and its important teaching value has not been fully reflected.This research takes A Dream of Red Mansions as the main research object,explores effective teaching strategies aimed at comprehensively cultivating the core literacy of students,and provides theoretical exploration and practical guidance for the whole-book reading and teaching of A Dream of Red Mansions.It has been nearly a hundred years since A Dream of Red Mansions was formally selected into the Chinese language textbooks for primary and secondary schools in our country in 1924.In the past century,with the passage of time,teaching researchers have made corresponding changes as to the teaching objectives,contents and evaluation methods of the selected essays.Under the background of the new curriculum reform,we should first take the core literacy of the Chinese language as the outline,rethink about the teaching value of the whole-book reading of A Dream of Red Mansions that is in line with the characteristics of education in the new era,change teaching concepts,review teaching principles,and finally implement the theory into practice so that it will become a teaching strategy that can be managed by front-line teachers.This research is also done in the same way,focusing on the three aspects of the value of the classic masterpiece itself,the level of the Chinese language curriculum and the perspective of the Chinese core literacy,theoretically having clarified the value of the whole-book reading and teaching of A Dream of Red Mansions in high schools.At the same time,it has conducted an empirical investigation on the progress of the whole-book reading of A Dream of Red Mansions in the region of Suzhou,and concluded that in practice,there exists a distance between the whole-book reading and teaching of A Dream of Red Mansions and the ideally-constructed teaching,and there are four issues such as “ replacement of students’ independent reading with teacher’s interpretation on knowledge points”;“replacement of qualitative evaluation of reading with quantitative test evaluation”;“replacement of teacher’s practical exploration with model teacher’s experience summary” and “replacement of students’ actual reading with miscellaneous reading activities”,which have ultimately affected the implementation of the whole-book reading of A Dream of Red Mansions in daily teaching.In order to solve these problems and explore the novel reading-teaching strategy,having taken A Dream of Red Mansions as a case,this research begins with the three aspects of "narrative structure","environmental description" and "character shaping"of novels,having integrated the excellent traditional culture in the novel,covered the whole-book reading and teaching of "A Dream of Red Mansions and explored the teaching strategies of the whole-book reading of A Dream of Red Mansions which are beneficial to the cultivation of students’ core literacy in the Chinese language,and provides the four teaching suggestions of deep-reading of texts,understanding of themes in novel,appreciating of characters in novel and focusing on traditional culture.
