Operation ability is one of the ten core concepts proposed in the “Compulsory Education Mathematics Curriculum Standard(2011 Edition)”.Operation ability is the foundation of mathematics learning and the cornerstone of the development of other mathematical abilities.Mathematical operation ability is one of the six core qualities of mathematics.It is a necessary character and key ability for students to meet the needs of life-long development and social development.This research takes the seventh-grade students of a middle school in Qingdao as the research objects.The research methods of literature research,questionnaire survey,test,and interview are adopted to understand the research status of the subject,the seventh-grade students' mathematical operation ability development status,and the influencing factors.This research puts forward training strategies,and uses "Multiplication of Rational Numbers" as an example for teaching design to improve students' mathematical operation ability.The investigation and analysis lead to the following conclusions.First,the development of students' mathematics ability is uneven.Most of students are at the fourth level,more are still at the third level,and some are at the first and second level.Therefore,the overall level needs to be improved.Second,there is no significant correlation between class and performance,nor is there a significant correlation between gender and performance.Third,some students do not have a firm grasp of the basic knowledge,have not developed good operation habits,and cannot optimize the operation process and methods.Fourth,the factors that affect students' operation ability can be divided into two categories: objective factors and subjective factors.Objective factors include environment and teachers.Subjective factors include non-intellectual factors,study habits,cognitive structure,and thinking methods.The following suggestions are made based on the survey results.Teachers should help students develop good operation habits,improve students' cognitive structure,and familiarize students with mathematical methods.Teachers should also attach great importance to the cultivation of non-intellectual factors and mathematical thinking abilities.Cultivating operation ability has important practical significance for the improvement of teaching quality and the overall development of students.
