Self-confidence is a quality and belief that a person must have in order to be successful.Primary school is the beginning of healthy physical and mental development, and starting to develop students' self-confidence at an early age plays an important role in their future life and learning. In the process of teaching physical education we have found that students who regularly participate in sports clubs are more lively and cheerful and better able to communicate and interact with others than those who do not or less frequently participate in sports clubs. In sports competitions, students who have participated in sports activities are more "daring" and have more courage to present themselves.Studies have shown that physical activity not only provides physical exercise, but also has a positive effect on students' physical and mental health development. The relationship between the self-confidence of students who participate in sports clubs and the self-confidence of students who do not participate or participate less needs to be further investigated. Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between sports club activities and self-confidence in order to call on schools to attach importance to sports activities and students to actively participate in physical exercise,so as to achieve the overall development of physical and mental health. This study used questionnaires to investigate 641 students who participated in sports clubs and those who did not participate in sports clubs in Jingzhou Experimental Primary School,Chudu School Primary Department and Beijing Road No.3 Primary School in Sha City,Hubei Province.596 questionnaires and data were collected, with a recovery rate of 92.98%.Among them,241 students from Jingzhou Experimental Primary School,208 students from the Primary Department of Chudu School and 192 students from the Third Primary School of Beijing Road in Sha City, making a total of 641 students. In accordance with the principle of "participating in sports clubs in addition to physical education classes",383 people(64.2%)were selected as the group participating in sports clubs. The sample of 213 people(35.8%)was selected according to the principle of "not participating in sports clubs except for physical education classes",which is the general group.A comparative analysis of the differences between the sports club participation group and the general group was conducted using independent samples t-test and one-way ANOVA to investigate the relationship between regular participation in sports clubs and students' self-confidence,and to provide new ideas for school teachers to motivate and develop students' self-confidence.The findings of the study:(1)The results of the independent samples t-test on the eight dimensions of self-denial,self-confirmation,learning confidence, instrument confidence, parental communication, sports confidence, moral confidence, peer interaction and total confidence score between the sports club participation group and the general group showed that the p-value was less than 0.01.It was inferred that participation in sports club activities had a positive feedback effect on enhancing the self-confidence of primary school students.(2)The difference between the self-confidence scores of male and female students in the sports club participation group and the general group was small, and only the general group of sports club activities differed in the self-denial dimension(p<0.05).(3)In the same cluster, the basketball club students slightly outperformed the students who participated in the football club in terms of instrument confidence and parental communication across different sports;the table tennis club students slightly outperformed the students who participated in the badminton club in terms of self-affirmation in the confrontation across the net(badminton and table tennis)cluster;and the dance club students outperformed the students who participated in the martial arts club in terms of moral confidence in the performance of difficult beauty(wushu and dance)cluster. Thus,we can recommend sports clubs that can improve the self-confidence of students according to their different self-confidence profiles,in order to achieve an overall improvement in self-confidence.(4)Between the different sporting groups, the same court confrontation group(basketball, footballs)and the difficult-to-perform group(wushu, dance)were better than the isolated net confrontation group(bing, feather)on the sporting confidence dimension;there was no significant difference between the difficult-to-perform group(wushu, dance)and the isolated net confrontation group(basketball, footballs).
