Translation And Application Of The Chinese Version Of The Empathy Scale For Social Workers

Empathy is considered to be one of the most important professional qualities and work skills of social workers,but as a psychological concept,to have a detailed understanding and understanding of the empathy status of social workers requires professional help.tools to measure.At present,the domestic scales for measuring empathy have various deficiencies,and they are mostly used to measure the empathy of the medical field and the general population.there is a lack of professional empathy measurement tools in the social work field.How to solve the lack of basic empathy measurement tools in the field of social workers,to meet the needs of the government to promote the development of social workers,and to build a large social worker talent team has become an urgent problem to be solved.Based on previous research results,scholars such as Professor Steve King and Professor Jr from Kennesaw State University in the United States summarized the connotation and concept of empathy in the field of social work,and based on this,they designed the Social Worker empathy Scale(The Empathy Scale for Social Workers,ESSW),which has been translated into turkish,Greek and Korean in addition to the English version,has good reliability and validity.Therefore,this study introduced the empathy Scale for Social Workers(ESSW),modified it into Chinese,and tested its reliability and validity.the sinicization process strictly followed the cross-cultural adjustment guidelines recommended by the World Health Organization(WHO),and adopted the sinicization process of forward translation-expert group-back translation-pre-test and cognitive interview,and invited scholars in related fields to make expert comments on the scale.A set of social workers' empathy assessment tools that can adapt to my country's cultural environment,have high reliability,validity,and are simple and feasible,will be used to measure the empathy level of social workers in my country in the future.After obtaining the official authorization from the original author,the researchers conducted a localization adjustment of the empathy Scale for Social Workers(ESSW)according to the cross-cultural adjustment guidelines of the scale.the researchers conducted questionnaire surveys on more than 30 social work institutions and some colleges and universities in the southwestern region,mainly in Chongqing and Chengdu,collected data through field surveys,electronic questionnaires,etc.,and made statistical analysis of the data.The research results are as follows:(1)A total of 302 valid questionnaires were obtained in this study,82 in the pre-investigation stage and 220 in the formal investigation stage.Among them,men account for about 26% and women account for about 74%,with an average age of 27 years old.(2)the results of cognitive semantic analysis showed that the filling time of the Chinese version of the scale was about 5-8 minutes,the items were easy to understand,and basically conformed to Chinese language expressions and professional social work terms.(3)the results of item analysis,combined with the correlation coefficient method and the extreme group test method,show that the absolute value of the correlation coefficient of most items is greater than 0.3 and the P value is less than 0.01;the extreme group test shows that most items have significant differences between high and low groups,P For values less than 0.05,the 95% confidence interval does not contain 0.(4)the reliability test results show that the content consistency coefficient Cronbach'sa of the scale after Chineseization is0.897,and the split-half reliability coefficient is 0.844,which has good reliability.(5)Validity test results show that the minimum value of I-CVI is 0.857>0.78,and S-CVI/Ave is 0.97>0.9,indicating that the scale has good content validity;exploratory factor analysis results show that the cumulative contribution rate of variance 69,489%>40%,the absolute value of the loading on the corresponding factor of most items is greater than 0.4.A total of 11 common factors with eigenvalues greater than 1 were extracted,and the factors were combined into 3common factors,namely,compassionate situational assessment,acceptance and careful professional relationship quality exploration,willingness to help others and altruism,and the original scale.It is basically consistent with the dimension division of many other scales after Chineseization,and almost all items have been fully expressed in the three factors,indicating that the scale has good structural validity.This study finally formed the Chinese version of the empathy Scale for Social Workers(ESSW),with a total of 3 dimensions and 39 items.the scale has good reliability and validity,and is useful for understanding the empathy of social workers in my country It is of great significance to promote the development of social workers' empathy measurement and research.
