With the vigorous development of China's economy and the continuous rise of its comprehensive national strength,the phenomenon that mandarin learners are becoming younger is more and more common.How to teach Chinese as a foreign language to this group has become a problem worth thinking about at present.This thesis is based on the author's teaching practice in New Zealand as a Mandarin Language Assistant,who presents detailed analysis of classroom observations,questionnaire and interviews on the game teaching method for teaching Chinese in primary school in and around Rolleston,New Zealand.Thesis discusses the effectiveness of the game teaching method in the Mandarin teaching classroom in New Zealand,by combining the author's own design of classroom games,teaching materials,classroom teaching practice and evaluations with the local experimental practice,to propose some suggestions on the optimization of the game teaching method.This thesis argues that the game teaching method used in Chinese teaching in New Zealand should pay more attention to the content of games,the stipulation of rules when play the games and the control of pace of game playing.It is hoped that this study as well as its suggestions can prove of valuable implication for the application of the game teaching method to the Chinese teaching in New Zealand,especially for novice teachers teaching Chinese as a foreign language.The first chapter of this paper introduces the purpose and significance of the research,the research status,and research methods of game teaching method in China and abroad.The second chapter briefly introduces the concept of the game teaching method,its theoretical basis,basic principles,and practical value,which is the basis of this research.The third chapter briefly introduces the primary schools in Rolleston and its surrounding areas where the author teaches the types of games applied to foreign teaching,and the process of questionnaire design and interview.The fourth chapter starts from the application effect and suggestions of the game teaching method and makes an in-depth analysis based on the questionnaire and interview results of teachers and students.It puts forward the possible problems from the game teaching method and places that require attention and provides relevant suggestions for the formulation of game content,rule,and rhythm.Through experimental research,the author found that the students in the course of the game will be filtered and reconstruction,and applied it to the daily language communication,enhance interest,confirming the game teaching method in creating a relaxed and lively classroom atmosphere,improve learning efficiency plays an important role,the paper shows the personal design,adaptation of the game can be used as a new Mandarin Language Assistant's teaching material,to provide a reference for foreign children Chinese language teaching.
