The development of schools is often faced with challenges from the complexity of the reality,involving the handling of the relationship with the educational administration,teachers,students and parents,and the slightest carelessness will lead to contradictions.Under the background of principal responsibility system,the principal,as the main person in charge of the school,is the key to coordinate the relations between all parties and deal with the contradictions.Faced with the contradiction between students' achievement and students' all-round development,between teachers' professional achievement and personal growth,and between parents' diversified needs and single evaluation index,different principals have different choices.But neither quick success,conformity,nor cynicism will help solve the real problems.Existing research or current practice couldn't provide effective reference for solving the problem.How to choose the leadership view and leadership style has become an urgent problem for primary and secondary school principals to solve.Therefore,we chose Principal X of J Middle School in N City as the object of our case study,using interview method,observation method and text analysis,based on the highly complicated school reality,constructing the research framework from three aspects involving the choice of the principal's leadership view,the principal's leadership strategies and leadership virtues,in order to answer the question :under the highly complicated reality background,which the principal leadership style is more worth pursuing.The findings are as follows: At present,the education evaluation system dominated by graduation rate,in addition,the excessive interference of educational administrative departments and the brand of exam-oriented education on teachers are all hindering the realization of education ideal.In this context,Principal X put forward the schoolrunning idea of " have your cake and eat it too " to respond to the current education reality,and there is a mixed motive of Principal X behind his behavior.In order to properly handle the relationship with various parties and eliminate the uncertainties from inside and outside the school as much as possible,Principal X interprets leadership as service,which reflects a realistic view of leadership.Based on this,Principal X adopted leadership strategies such as building interpersonal relationships,understanding the needs of teachers and students,gradually promoting affairs,and innovating solutions,so as to create a cultural atmosphere of the school and promote the realization of school goals.President X also has the leadership virtues of humility,persistence,restraint and sagacity.To respect others and to know yourself can promote humility.To hold the line and to pursue the ideal could cast persistence.To control your emotions and to reject following blindly may practice restraint.To read books and to do practice can improve your sagacity.The research shows that: First,Principal X adopted a realistic leadership view,and his leadership strategies and leadership virtues are in line with the characteristics of quiet leadership.Second,the Chinese characteristic of quiet leadership in terms of leadership virtues is sagacity,and in terms of leadership strategy,it is embodied in setting an example.Third,quiet leaders in the field of education have rational values and a profound understanding of the nature of education,and are able to take the allround development of students as their value pursuit.For the development of education,we expect more Principal X to appear.Therefore,this study puts forward two suggestions: First,principals should strengthen their personal training,cultivate independent personality,set up educational ideals,and increase their extensive knowledge and rich experience;Second,we should improve the external mechanism,adjust the selection and appointment standards of principals,enrich the training system and perfect the evaluation indexes.
