College students as adults have diversified learning interests and learning needs during their studies in colleges and universities.On the one hand,college students accept the training goals of the general higher education stage,and on the other hand,they seek new development through online and offline learning according to their own interests and hobbies.All these depend on the support provided by the university's soft environment.Secondly,universities as one of the ways of existence of learning organizations and students as planners and practitioners of adult lifelong learning,how to achieve autonomy and lifelong learning in university organizations requires the soft environment of universities to implement the construction goals of learning organizations.At the same time,the problems of unbalanced and insufficient development of educational resources in western universities generally exist.The phenomenon of "emphasizing hard over soft" emerges one after another.How to optimize the soft environment and improve the quality of running schools in western universities also has a long way to go.Therefore,discussing the construction of soft environment in western universities is of great significance to the realization of lifelong learning of college students and the construction of learning organizations.This research is guided by learning organization theory and lifelong learning theory,using literature analysis to sort out the content of the soft environment of colleges and universities,which can be roughly divided into five dimensions: learning atmosphere,interpersonal relationship,school system,educational philosophy,and network environment.The method understands the development status and problems of the soft environment of western universities from the perspective of student evaluation by using questionnaire surveys,and further explores the existing problems of the soft environment construction of western universities in combination with the interview investigation method.The study found that the soft environment evaluation index of western universities is at the upper middle level;the degree of attention to the soft environment of western universities is difficult to be proportional to the degree of investment;the learning atmosphere of western universities is strong and the interpersonal relationship is good;the system construction of western universities is not sound,and the development of the network environment is insufficient;The educational concept of western universities needs to be improved urgently.At the same time,there are significant differences in students' evaluation of the soft environment of western universities in terms of grade,student status,and performance.Based on the above data analysis results and related interviews,it analyzes the causes of the status quo of the soft environment construction of western universities from four aspects: society,schools,systems,and students.Social aspect: evaluation tends to be utilitarian,formalized and one-sided.School aspect: school education philosophy emphasizes hard and soft over soft.System aspect: lack of innovation in system construction.Student aspect: learning needs are becoming increasingly diversified.Through the analysis and discussion of the research results,with the help of learning organization theory,the construction path of the soft environment of western universities is proposed: downplaying formalism,innovating evaluation mechanism;attaching importance to independent learning,advocating cooperative learning;advancing system reform,establishing a learning vision;developing network resources,satisfying learning needs;taking into account both the hard and soft environment to achieve overall development.
