Research On The Influence Of Retirement Behavior On Household Consumption Level ——Based On CHARLS Data

As the aging of our society continues to increase,the consumption of the elderly is playing an increasingly irreplaceable role in the social consumption economy.Individuals entering old age after retirement will cause significant changes in people's lifestyles,income levels,health status,etc.,by studying the impact of retirement on consumption,we can understand whether retirement behavior will affect consumption and grasp the current consumption status of the elderly.Reasonably respond to the impact of the increasing aging of our country on consumption upgrades,and provide a theoretical basis for government departments to study and issue relevant retirement policies.It has important theoretical significance and practical value.First,on the basis of reading a large number of domestic and foreign literatures,it sorts out whether there is a "retirement consumption mystery" in various countries,the consumption situation after retirement and the factors that affect consumption after retirement,and summarizes related theoretical research on the theory of consumption.Using some research conclusions in the literature for reference,the related concepts used in the following text are defined.Secondly,from a macro perspective,it uses descriptive statistics and qualitative analysis methods to analyze and summarize the current situation of my country's population aging and retirement,and the consumption status of national residents and elderly groups.Provide a solid realistic foundation and oriented analysis basis for the following research.Finally,the empirical research part of this thesis uses CHARLS(2018)survey data to select 3277 samples based on the nature of the work and retirement status of the respondents.First,breakpoint regression and other methods are used to explore the impact of retirement behavior on household consumption levels.,And analyze the heterogeneity of different groups of cities and whether to postpone retirement.In order to understand the mechanism of retirement's influence on household consumption level,after studying related theories and reading related literature,this thesis concludes that "consumption" is an activity that is affected by both "income" and "time".Therefore,this thesis takes this as a starting point and adopts an intermediary Effect to study the impact mechanism of retirement on the level of household consumption through "wage,transfer income" and "leisure time".According to the results of empirical analysis,the following conclusions are drawn:Firstly,It is found that retirement has increased the overall level of household consumption in the influence of retirement behavior on household consumption.There is no "mystery of retirement consumption" in our country.Retirement mainly makes non-The consumption of durable goods and services,medical and healthcare consumption,and cultural and entertainment consumption have increased significantly.Secondly,In the discussion and analysis of sub-group heterogeneity,it is found that in the analysis of income heterogeneity,the consumption level of low,middle and high income groups increases significantly after retirement;In unit heterogeneity,it is found that the household consumption level after retirement increases significantly in government and public institutions,but not in enterprises.In addition,the consumption capacity of households of the group without delay retirement is stronger than that of the group with delay retirement.Thirdly,in the analysis of the impact mechanism,it is concluded that retirement reduces wages and transferable income,which has a certain inhibitory effect on household consumption,but overall retirement still shows a trend of promoting household consumption.In addition,retirement prolongs the inter-generation care time of individuals and spouses,leading to higher levels of consumption.Finally,based on the results of empirical analysis,this thesis provides development suggestions for the formulation of relevant retirement policies and the promotion of consumption by the elderly.At the same time,it is also hoped that the government will be prepared to respond to changes in elderly consumption,comply with the new consumption needs of the elderly,attach importance to the improvement of the elderly consumer market,and build a healthy consumption security system for the elderly.
