| As "symbol consciousness" is listed as one of the ten core qualities of mathematics curriculum,mathematical symbol is particularly important,which is closely related to mathematics discipline.For mathematical symbols,students should not only know mathematical symbols,but also apply them to express and solve mathematical problems and practical problems,however,in the actual teaching,teachers often do not pay special attention to the cultivation of students’ application ability of mathematical symbols..First of all,in this paper the application ability of mathematical symbols was divided into four dimensions: understanding,representation,reasoning and operation by reading literature,and construct an evaluation system of students’ application ability of mathematical symbols;Secondly,Secondly,662 students were randomly selected from 6classes in the second grade of two senior middle schools.Then,a questionnaire about the attitude of teachers and students to teaching and learning mathematical symbols and a test paper to test students’ ability to use mathematical symbols were developed.By asking students to complete the questionnaire and test papers,the level of students’ mathematical symbol application ability was analyzed,and the students were interviewed according to their answers,and the following conclusions were obtained: students have a high understanding and operation ability of mathematical symbols,however,some students do not have a deep understanding of mathematical symbols,and are not flexible enough in the operation of mathematical symbols.The students’ ability of mathematical symbol representation and reasoning needs to be improved.Some students are not standardized and lack exercise when using mathematical symbols to represent,and lack clear thinking and inquiring spirit when using mathematical symbols to reason.Finally,interviews were conducted with teachers.From the interviews,teachers had their own opinions on the awareness of mathematical symbols and affirmed the importance of mathematical symbols,but they would ignore mathematical symbols in normal teaching.In view of the problems existing in students’ application of mathematical symbols,the following suggestions were put forward:(1)Establish a correct concept of mathematical symbol learning;(2)Strengthen students’ understanding of mathematical symbols;(3)Pay attention to students’ representation of mathematical symbols;(4)Strengthen students’ reasoning ability of mathematical symbols;(5)Improve students’ ability to calculate mathematical symbols. |
