| With socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered an new era,seeking happiness for the people has become the important task of the development of the social.According to the data released by the National Bureau of Statistics,the elderly aged 65 and over accounted for 14.2% of the total population by the end of 2021 in China.China's society has entered a moderate aging.The subjective well-being of the elderly has been a focus topic.Therefore,based on the data from China Family Panel Studies(CFPS)in 2018,combined with OLS,Ordered logistic and qualitative research method,this paper aims to study the effect of intergenerational relationship on subjective well-being of the elderly in China from the perspective of intergenerational support and the quality of intergenerational relationship.The results show that intergenerational support has significant effects on the subjective well-being of the elderly.Intergenerational support means providing help in economy,life and emotion for each other between the elderly and their adult children.Accepting adult children's financial support and daily care has a significant positive effect on the subjective well-being of the elderly.The more daily care accepting from adult children,the higher subjective well-being of the elderly.Meeting and contacting with adult children can improve the subjective well-being of the elderly significantly.However,providing more financial support or daily care for adult children,old parents' subjective well-being will be lower.It may be because too much financial support and daily care will bring the elderly pressure on the physical and mental,causing lower life quality.The effects of intergenerational support on the subjective well-being of the elderly has urban-rural,gender and age differences.Accepting children's financial support has a more significant positive effect on the subjective well-being of rural,female and young elderly people.Accepting adult children ' s daily care improves the subjective well-being of rural,male and middle-aged and older elderly people more significantly.Meeting and contacting with adult children have more significant positive effect on the subjective well-being of rural,older elderly people.This may be because the need for children's support is related to the elderly's characteristics.The social pension services and economic development in rural areas lags behind,so the rural elderly have a more urgent demand for the support from their children.Due to the decline of physical function and the increase of widowhood risk brought by age growth,the middle-aged and elderly people have greater needs for their children's daily care and emotional support.The male elderly have more urgent needs for the care of their children because of their relative lack of life experience such as self-care.Because of the relatively poor economic situation,the female elderly need more financial support from their children.Support from adult children is an important pension resource for these elderly people,which is conducive to meeting their material,care and spiritual needs,so as to improve the subjective well-being of the elderly.The quality of intergenerational relationship refers to the emotional intimacy between the elderly and their adult children,which have a significant positive effect on the subjective well-being of the elderly.When the elderly have a closed relation with their children,their subjective well-being will be higher.Intergenerational relationship quality and intergenerational support can regulate the subjective well-being of the elderly.When the relationship between old parents and their adult children is closed,they are more likely to support each other and live together,thus the subjective well-being of the elderly will be higher.Appropriate intergenerational support will also strengthen intergenerational ties and intimacy,improve the elderly's satisfaction with family life and bring more happiness to them.We suggest that improving the subjective well-being of the elderly needs to maintain and develop intergenerational relationship.First,strengthen cultural construction.Carry forward the core values of the new era,cultivate good family tradition and filial piety,and encourage people to respect and love the elderly.Second,support family building.Improve family building support policies to create conditions for shorten intergenerational living distance and promoting intergenerational mutual assistance.Third,improve laws and regulations.Improve and implement Elderly Rights Law,urge adult children to fulfill their maintenance responsibilities,and protect the legitimate rights and interests of the elderly. |
