The ever-changing AI technology is converging with primary and secondary school education,and its product AI education is regarded as an important path to cultivate innovative talents.In this context,China has issued relevant policies to promote the development of AI education in primary and secondary schools,however,because it is still in the initial exploration stage,and most of the relevant research is based on the macroscopic perspective of goal exploration,lack of theoretical and practical case studies,AI education in primary and secondary schools is plagued with difficulties.At the same time,although the "double reduction" after-school service provides the possibility of AI education,it also puts forward higher teaching quality requirements,and it is urgent to carry out research on AI education based on school units.This study takes elementary school P in Suzhou City as an example,and uses three research methods: literature analysis,observation,and in-depth interview,to investigate "what dilemmas exist in the current situation of AI education?" and "How to break through the existing dilemma?" The two main research questions were "What are the dilemmas of AI education?" and "How to break through the existing dilemmas effectively?",and we conducted third-party observation in P elementary school and indepth interviews with four front-line teachers who were engaged in AI teaching.The following conclusions were drawn from this study:(1)Primary school P faces the dilemma of "strengthening competition and weakening popularization" in terms of curriculum orientation.The competition-oriented AI education plays a transitional role of "double-edged sword",which is beneficial for schools to obtain assessment materials on the one hand,and detrimental to the long-term development of AI education popularization on the other.The way to break through the dilemma is to adapt the competition tasks to reduce the difficulty while retaining the core literacy training,so that they can become the source of school-based curriculum materials.(2)P elementary school are facing the dilemma of "limited self-development and professionalism" in teaching and research implementation.In the context of the lack of curriculum standards and professional guidance,the professionalism of AI education teaching and research implementation is worrying,and it is difficult to be solved by the teachers in the school alone.The way to break through the dilemma is to carry out school-enterprise cooperation,i.e.actively cooperate with university experts and technology enterprises to carry out AI education and improve the quality and feasibility of education in all aspects.(3)P elementary school face the dilemma of teacher participation,which is "difficult to cope with the burden of school work".The lack of teachers in AI education is exacerbated by the imperfect policy system.The pressure of their jobs and the uselessness of their titles are the core reasons why teachers are reluctant to participate in AI teaching.
