The century-old plan is based on education.The foundations of learning are teachers.Throughout the ages,education has always been the most important issue in the development of all countries.At present,all countries in the world regard the establishment of first-class universities and the training of first-class talents as a strategic measure to enhance comprehensive national strength.Teachers are the foundation of education and the source of education.The construction and the reform of the faculty have a long way to go,which are given a prominent position by the Party Central Committee and the state.At the end of 2020,the Ministry of Education and six other departments jointly issued the Guiding Opinions on Strengthening the Construction and Reform of the Teaching Staff of Colleges and Universities in the New Era.These signals are sufficient to show the importance of the research on the construction,development and evaluation of university teachers.First-class faculty is the basic guarantee of building a first-class university,and is also an important indicator to measure the comprehensive strength of a university.Therefore,it is of great practical significance to investigate the current situation of teacher team construction and evaluate the balance of teacher structure.Based on the consideration of the above phenomena,this paper integrates relevant theories and concepts of sociology and pedagogy when exploring the current situation of the teaching staff in the field of library,information and archives management,and investigates full-time teachers from 26 iSchools colleges in China and the United States as the research objects.The age structure,gender structure,educational background structure,academic background structure,professional title structure,discipline background,student-teacher ratio and internationalization degree of the teachers in the sample universities were compared and analyzed by using the method of literature,website research,CV analysis and mathematical statistics.Then,this paper establishes an evaluation index system for the balance of the faculty structure of colleges and universities,and carries out an empirical study on the balance evaluation of the Chinese and American iSchools faculty structure based on the survey data by using the entropy weight method and the grey relational analysis method.The research found that the age structure of China's iSchools faculty is showing a younger trend,with a sound academic echelon,while the aging trend in the United States is prominent.In China,iSchools faculty has a large number of males,and the number of male leaders is dominant.In both China and the United States,the proportion of male teachers decreases with the decrease of professional title levels,while the proportion of female teachers increases with the decrease of professional title levels.Teachers in both countries generally hold doctorate degrees,and enjoy broad academic career development prospects.The international exchange coverage of China's iSchools teachers is higher than that of the United States,but the globalization of the source of American teachers is remarkable.In terms of the disciplinary background of the teachers,talents with multidisciplinary background account for a larger proportion in the American iSchools teachers,and the disciplines are more diversified.Chinese teachers are mainly majoring in traditional library,information and information,which has consolidated the disciplinary structure.Taking all the indicators into consideration,the balance of the faculty structure of Chinese and American iSchools colleges and universities can be divided into four levels according to the ranking table of grey correlation,and the balance of the faculty structure of China as a whole is better than that of the US.Finally,the countermeasures for optimizing the teacher structure are given based on the theoretical basis.
